Who We Are
The United States National Committee (USNC) for UN Women is an independent non-profit, 501c3 organization that supports UN Women programs. These projects promote social, political, and economic equality for women and girls spanning 100 countries around the globe.
The Need
Although life expectancies for women are higher than men worldwide, a variety of social and health factors have combined to create a lower quality of life for women. Without equal access to information, care and basic health practices, health risks for women continue to increase globally.
The Plan
The USNC for UN Women Greater Houston Chapter is hosting the 2016 Global Healthcare Summit to help raise awareness of global health issues and needs and highlight the outstanding work of United States National Committee for UN Women Houston Chapter in collaboration with Health, Medical, STEM, and Science Programs at Hartman Middle School and Jones Futures Academy of Allied Health. A variety of vendors and exhibitors will educate on all aspects of health, wellness, fitness and lifestyle improvements as well as doctors and dentists to provide no cost or low cost health screenings and information for the Houston community.
The US Medical Soccer Team will host the Student Health Forums and Celebrity Soccer Match. Seminars to engage our youth on the benefits of an active lifestyle, healthy nutrition, and education to achieve one’s goals utilizing their “Healthy, Fit & Smart” toolkit. The Celebrity Soccer Match will feature The United Sates Medical Soccer Team (USMTS), educators, celebrities, and students. The game will help raise funds, awareness, and support for the ongoing efforts of UN Women.
“I Was Here” Black Tie Gala will celebrate the outstanding achievements of 5 community leaders who are leaving a lasting mark on the global health community through their selfless works with presentations of Presidential Service Awards in a grand ceremony.
The Goal
The goal of our Houston Chapter of USNC-UN Women’s 2016 Global Health Summit is to raise, both, better medical awareness for women globally.
